Police are on the hunt for a man who brutally attacked a Rotorua shop owner with a hammer.
It happened just after 5pm on Friday, at the Rosedale Superette in Owhata.
The man allegedly used the hammer to strike the store owner multiple times across the head and body.
He fled the scene across Te Ngae Road, in front of heavy traffic, with an armful of cigarettes.
The man is described as Polynesian of thin build, wearing black jeans, a black hoodie under a puffer vest and a cap.
