Teenage driver in fatal ute flipping pleads guilty

The driver of a ute which rolled on a beach, killing an Auckland schoolboy, has pleaded guilty.

The 18-year-old driver appeared at the North Short District Court on Wednesday morning and has interim name suppression.

He faces four charges of drunk driving, dangerous driving causing death and injury and failing to stop to ascertain injury. 

The teenager was driving the ute that crashed at Rothesay Bay on June 23, injuring 17-year-old Robbie Cederwall, who later died in hospital. Seven people in total were injured when the driver overturned his ute . 

He is remanded on bail and will reappear in court in October.
