The Tokoroa community isn't satisfied with the latest changes to the South Waikato District Council's gambling policy.

The Council voted for only minor changes to gambling policy in the area, despite 104 submissions calling for tighter restrictions, Stuff reports.

There are plans for three clubs in Tokoroa to merge into one mega venue containing 30 machines.

Andree Froude from the Problem Gambling Foundation says this is harmful to families and communities.

"We've got real concern about Tokoroa ending up with a 30 pokie machine mini casino. It's a high deprivation community, pokies are really harmful," she said.

Ms Froude told Newshub the council should implement a 'sinking lid policy' to stop pokies being reallocated and moved around.

"We would like to see a true sinking lid, which means we won't see pokies being relocated and we won't see club mergers such as what potentially could happen in Tokoroa."
