A Trade Me property listing advertised for flatmates who are mature, work normal hours - and aren't from India.

The ad for a four-bedroom, two-bathroom house in Avondale was posted on Monday.

The existing tenants of the Auckland property are described as "grown up people", yet seem to have a problem with living with those of a certain race.

"We wont [sic] be able to accept people from India so don't waste your time guys," the listing read.

The ad's original description elaborated that the tenants don't want Indian flatmates because they "don't like curry", Stuff reports.

Two people had complained about the listing using Trade Me's Community Watch feature by Wednesday night.

Trade Me altered the listing to remove the complaint about curry, but told Stuff they would not be taking down the ad.

As of Thursday morning the listing appears to have been deleted from the site.

Earlier in July two property ads published in The New Zealand Herald were denounced as racist for noting that most people living in the advertised areas were European.
