Warrant for arrest for man in relation to Invercargill shooting

Police have issued a warrant to arrest a man in relation to Saturday's shooting in Invercargill.

Anthony Miles Tamaiti Watkins, 24 is wanted in connection to the shooting of a 52-year-old man on Kelvin Street.

After the incident, cordons were put in place and the armed offenders squad (AOS) was called in. 

Police conducted a scene examination and found the firearm believed to have been used.

Watkins is approximately 167 cm in height and believed to be unpredictable, Detective Senior Sergeant Stu Harvey says.

"Caution should be taken if any member of the public see him or have dealings with him."

The victim is still recovering in Southland Hospital. It is not yet known when he will be released. 

The man wanted to thank emergency services and the public for their assistance at the time of the incident.

He is a completely innocent party in relation to this incident, police say.

Watkins is the only person being sought by police in relation to the shooting.
