A woman has been rescued at Lake Taupo.

She was spotted by a member of the public waving and drifting in the water about 50m from the shore between Rifle Range Rd and Tui St, police said.

With the assistance of the Coastguard and the harbourmaster, a woman was rescued at approximately 10:30am.

Meanwhile, two men were rescued from a flooded river overnight.

Police were called just before 11:30pm on Saturday and were told the two men were on the roof of their 4x4 vehicle in the Waimea River.

There had been heavy rain in the area earlier in the day.

The pair, aged 27 and 29, were rescued at 12:45am and taken to hospital with early hypothermia.

Their vehicle eventually sank.
