One dead after Taranaki school bus crash

A man has died after a school bus carrying 13 passengers crashed in Taranaki.

The 69-year-old bus driver died following the crash on State Highway 3 north of Inglewood at 3:30pm on Wednesday afternoon.

The bus went down the side of a bank and into a ditch.

Ten passengers were taken to Taranaki Base Hospital where they are now being assessed. Three other passengers were assessed at a local media centre.

A St John spokeswoman said most people in the crash sustained moderate to minor injuries. 

It was a route 3022 bus carrying Inglewood High School students, who were aged between 12 and 17.

SH3 remains closed as police investigate the crash.
