A young kitten has escaped death after losing a leg on an Auckland motorway on Wednesday.
"The little feline found his way onto the Northwestern Motorway and caused commuter chaos until police arrived to manage the incident," a police spokesperson says.
"The poor little kitten had lost his leg by the time Police arrived and our officer, assisted by five members of the public, attempted to catch the fluffy feline who was causing all the kerfuffle."

But despite being down a leg, the kitten proved to be too agile and clambered up underneath the stationary police car.
Firmly ensconced on an unreachable ledge near the car's diff, it refused to come out to safety. Unable to remove him despite significant efforts, the kitten was eventually escorted at very low speed to Giltrap Motors, where a team of mechanics was waiting to retrieve the furry feline from his hiding place.
"The mechanics were incredible and it was like watching a Formula 1 pit crew team work on a racing car with the speed they removed the exhaust and parts of the suspension to get to the poor kitten," said Constable Warwick Lyes.
The kitten was then taken to the Glenfield Vet Clinic, where he was treated for his injuries. He is reported to be doing well and has had several offers for new home.
"We suspect our furry little friend used up a few of his nine lives on Wednesday, but we're pleased to report he's doing well after his harrowing ordeal," a police spokesperson says.
