Officials are baffled over how two dead cows ended up on Christchurch beaches.
Rangers were alerted to the first cow on New Brighton Beach on Sunday morning, and then a second in Southshore not long after.
A Christchurch City Council spokesperson said recent large tides could have contributed to their deaths.
One of the cows was removed on Sunday morning.
