Victoria University of Wellington is considering changing its name.

Vice-chancellor Professor Grant Guilford says the current title is confusing.
"When they hear our name they immediately assume that we're in Australia or Canada, and that's resulting in a very difficult job for us."
Proposed changes would see the 'Victoria' dropped from the name, making it the University of Wellington.
Professor Guildford says the university needs a name that sets it apart.
"We need a name that stands on its own without further explanation offshore."
The council also wants to add a Māori version of the name.
The tertiary institution is seeking feedback on the proposed change this week and a decision is expected at the end of next month.
