One hundred people were reported ill on a Virgin Australia flight from Melbourne to Auckland.

Several ambulances were sent to Auckland Airport following calls about illness on the Trans-Tasman flight shortly after 3:30pm.

Six ambulances were sent to the airport and paramedics medically checked all passengers onboard before letting them off the plane.

Passengers on the Virgin Australia VA167 flight from Melbourne told Newshub the pilot alerted authorities because of his concerns over some passengers wellbeing as many were coughing.

A police spokeswoman told Newshub there were no issues after the passengers were checked over by ambulance staff.
