The body of a missing South Otago man has been found in the Clutha River.

Ian Marshall, who was in his 60s, was last seen on Thursday morning.

On Friday three boats, a helicopter and seven volunteer LandSAR teams searched for him from Manuka Island to Balclutha without success.

However late on Sunday afternoon, members of the Police Dive Squad found Mr Marshall's body in the Clutha River, Sergeant Jason Leadley says.

"While this was an outcome no one wanted, we would like to acknowledge the Search and Rescue volunteers from across the district who have assisted with the search over the last three days," he says.

Police have offered their sympathies to Mr Marshall's friends and family.

His death will be referred to the Coroner.
