A Christchurch fisherman who allegedly attempted to abduct a woman on Friday morning has been named.

Marcel Sydney Geros, 27, entered no plea to the charges of assaulting a woman with intent to injure and detaining her with intent to have sexual connection at the Christchurch District Court.

Geros opposed bail and has been remanded in custody due to reappear on October 4, Court News reports.

Earlier on Friday, Police issued a statement appealing for information of two attempted abductions in Christchurch.

A man confronted a woman at the Jellie Park Recreation and Sports Centre main carpark, before fleeing on a bicycle, Metro Crime Squads Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Worner says.

"The second incident occurred at around 5:50am, when the same man tried to abduct a woman jogger at the entrance to Ray Blank Park on Maidstone Road, Ilam," Det Snr Sgt Worner says.

"The woman fought off the man and a member of the public driving past stopped to help her. The man got back on his bicycle and rode off down Maidstone Road towards Avonhead."

A witness followed the accused, and saw him ride into a cul-de-sac street nearby. Police went to the address and took a man into custody.

"It's important to remember that people should be alert, not alarmed following these incidents. As the alleged offender is talking to Police we are confident the public has no reason to be concerned."
