Man dies after stabbing in Papamoa

A man in his 40s has died after he was stabbed at by another man at around 8:30am, police said on Saturday afternoon.

Witnesses reportedly saw children covered in blood at the scene in the Tauranga suburb of Papamoa.

Resident Todd Madden told SunLive he discovered children in the street begging him to call the police.

"As I was going to the car to take my six-year-old to swimming lessons we saw a young guy covered in blood with two children. He was yelling at me to call the cops," he said.

"The two kids came back to our place until an ambulance turned up. They were extremely upset and were saying their dad was inside lying in a pool of blood and had been stabbed."

A local man in his 20s has been arrested in relation to the incident.

Cordons are currently in place near the Hastings Dr property and the road has been blocked off.
