A man has died after being assaulted in the Lower Hutt suburb of Taita.
Police were called to a fight between a group of men on High St around 7:45pm on Friday.
A person has been taken into custody in relation to the incident.
A scene guard was in place overnight, and police are appealing to the public for witnesses - call (04) 560 2600 if you saw anything.
They also want the public to stay away from High St between Burcham Strand Macky St.
