Police are investigating two suspicious incidents where a man approached Dunedin primary school aged children and offered them a ride.

Two separate incidents have occurred in the space of a week.

The first incident happened at 8:30am last Tuesday on Three Mile Hill Rd in Halfway Bush. Members of the public intervened, causing the man to drive away.

On Monday morning, the man approached children on Shetland St in Wakari and asked them to get in his car to help him find a lost puppy, police say.

In both cases the children did the right thing not getting in the car and telling a teacher as soon as they got to school, Detective Sergeant Dylan Ross says.

"We know that reports of incidents such as these can cause considerable concern for parents and other members of our community."

Members of the public with any information that could help with the police investigation are urged to call Dunedin Police on 03 471 4800 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
