A man has been involved in a skydiving accident in Queenstown's Drift Bay on Tuesday afternoon.

St John's spokesperson Gerard Campbell said they were called to a skydiving accident around 3:20pm.

The person involved is a 29-year-old man, who was taken to hospital with moderate injuries after the accident during a recreational parachute jump.

The crash happened at the NZONE premises, about 50 metres from the buildings at Frankton, near Queenstown.

In January last year, a skydiving national champion suffered serious injuries at Drift Bay in a skydive run by NZONE.

The Civil Aviation Authority will be investigating.
