A 35-year-old American man has died after a skiing accident at Mt Aspiring on Saturday afternoon.
The man was with a friend skiing from the top of Mt Aspiring, downhill towards the Bonar Glacier, when he got into difficulty, fell and died from his injuries.
The Rescue Coordination Centre was advised of a beacon activation at about 1:30pm.
Police and Search and Rescue teams then spent the afternoon locating the skiers.
Emergency services are currently attending the scene. Investigations are underway and police are currently contacting next-of-kin.
