A Southland man will appear in court on Monday, after leading police on a dramatic chase at the weekend.

The 40-year-old allegedly started his crime spree in Invercargill on Saturday, before taking off to Queenstown.

Police eventually stopped the man at Frankton BP, but he locked himself in the bathroom for 40 minutes.

He's facing 18 charges in Invercargill District Court, including driving in a dangerous manner and failing to stop for police, but police say more are likely to follow.
