New Zealand might be in for freezing cold storms next week, but on Thursday, the polar blast seemed a long time away.
NIWA has released statistics showing many places around the North Island hit temperatures on Thursday we haven't seen in a long time.
"It was the warmest day in months for several North Island locations today," it said on Twitter.
Auckland perspired on 21degC - the hottest the city has seen in 127 days.
The west coast's Te Kuiti sweltered on 23.7degC - the highest in 168 days - while the east coast's Tauranga sweated on 21.7degC, which hadn't been reached in142 days.
There was no relief further down the country. Wellington baked on 23.4degC - the highest temperature since April 26 - while Masterton boiled on 23.4degC, the highest in 170 days.
Overnight temperatures are expected to remain high, with many places around the North Island seeing double-digit minimums.
The warm weather is expected to continue in many regions over the next few days before a powerful Antarctic blast strikes and drags temperatures back down.
