The armed offenders squad has been called out to an operation in south Auckland on Monday night after reports of a male with a "long-barrelled firearm" chasing another male through Ōtāhuhu.
Senior Sergeant Marriott says the offender was then seen threatening another person with the weapon before fleeing in a vehicle.
The vehicle was found at an address in Ōtāhuhu, leading to an armed offenders squad callout to "clear the address".
Snr Sgt Marriott says police are speaking to residents at the location and he is "completely confident" everyone in the area is safe.
