At least six people were hospitalised during the Auckland Marathon on Sunday morning.
A St John spokesperson says one person is in a critical condition.
Organisers of the event say the incidents are unrelated and they will offer the athletes support.
One half-marathon runner told NZME she saw three people collapse, including a man who was "white as a ghost".
