A Christchurch businessman has admitted to sexually preying on underage teenage girls - some of whom were Child Youth and Family runaways.

John Condon, 62, has pleaded guilty to 11 indecent assault charges and one of attempting to pervert the course of justice by attempting to dissuade a witness, Court News reports.

He told the Christchurch District Court that by admitting his charges, the seven victims would not have to face giving evidence at the trial.

The historic offending took place when Condon was between 43 and 51 years-old. The victims include a girl as young as 12.

He asked a number of girls to babysit his teenage son, and would supply them with alcohol before indecently assaulting them, the court heard.

Condon has been remanded in custody for sentencing on October 16.
