Soft drink giant Coca-Cola has made an embarrassing mix up in an advertisement for its popular drink.

The advertisement reads "Kia Ora, Mate", an attempt to combine the Māori language with English.

The soft drink manufacturer clearly did not realise the advertisement, when read in full Māori, translates to "Hello, death".

Mate is the Māori word for death.

Social media users were quick to point out the ironic side of it, given the extremely high sugar content of the company's drinks.
