Former radio and TV broadcaster Tony Veitch has officially launched a wellness retreat after permanently relocating to Bali.

On Saturday - the day of his 45th birthday - the sports personality shared a video to his Veitchy on Sport Facebook page announcing his new venture, Vitality Villas.

"The concept we have created is for people who, like me, have been through a lot when it comes to burn out," he said in the video.

"It's a retreat business for guys and girls, because guys often get forgotten about. It's a bed and breakfast business as well and it's about helping people discover the Bali we love.

"I'm doing something well out of my comfort zone."

Veitch explained that while sports and the social media page remains a "massive part" of his life, he felt ready to take on a new challenge.

The ex-TVNZ presenter has faced renewed criticism in recent years over injuries he inflicted on former girlfriend Kristin Dunne-Powell in 2006, and his response to the public outrage.

The sports broadcaster was convicted of injuring her with reckless disregard in 2009. Veitch pleaded guilty over the incident, which left Ms Dunne-Powell with a fractured back. Six other assault charges were dropped by the Crown.

Veitch shared that he had been on a month-long retreat last year in Australia, which he claims changed his life. He says he now wants to help others navigate through what can be "a bloody tough world out there".

"I got tools and mechanisms to start eating well, reduce the number of beverages I was drinking - and honestly, it led me where we are now," he said.

Veitch explained he has taken what he has learned to create a vision for men and women which he hopes will be "transformational".

Since starting the Veitchy on Sport page in 2010, he said his followers have been incredible.

"I love the support, debate and passion you bring."

Veitch said Vitality Villas is now open for business. He is listed as a director and shareholder of the business alongside Melissa Joan Carroll, which was incorporated on May 31 with the Companies Offices.
