Police have been called to Aquinas College in Tauranga after what they are calling a "disorder event".

The college was put into lockdown on Friday morning. It was lifted by 11am and police say no-one was injured.

NZME reports the lockdown was initiated at 9:50am after two female intruders were found on school grounds.

Principal Matt Dalton said in an email to parents they had entered in a "threatening manner".

"We determined [the lockdown] was a necessary step in the interest of the health and safety of our students and staff."

The school has now resumed normal classes.
