A Kiwi family is hoping to raise money to fund an alternative treatment for their daughter, three-year-old Ella's leukemia.

Ella McKenzie was diagnosed with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia in February, a cancer with a usually high rate of remission.

But having faced setbacks throughout the year, her parents Debs and Bay turned to medicinal cannabis in a bid to save their child.

Early indications have been positive, with Ella's parents saying CBD oil therapy has been "very effecting in relieving Ella of pain and side effects".

The treatment costs $800 per week, and with the expectation that Ella will need to continue the treatment for years to come her parents have set up a Givealittle page to help fund it.
