Police are on the hunt for a man with a distinctive facial tattoo in Hawke's Bay.

Hauraki Hira has a warrant out for his arrest, and is considered dangerous. Police are warning members of the public not to approach or confront him if they see him.

Hira's most distinguishing feature is the word 'HASTINGS' tattooed across the lower half of his face. He also has the word 'fatherland' emblazoned across his neck.

Facial tattoos are a key characteristic of members of the Mongrel Mob, which has an active presence in Hastings. The town is considered the gang's birthplace.

Anyone who sees Hira or has information that could help to locate him is urged to call either 111 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

They can also contact Detective Ryan Kemsley at Hastings Police at ryan.kemsley@police.govt.nz.
