Three police cars have been damaged after a violent chase through Napier on Monday morning, which also left three officers with injuries.

The incident began after the driver of a stolen Volvo failed to stop for police on Marine Parade at around 10:30am.

After a pursuit was abandoned for safety reasons, road spikes were used to stop the car. The vehicle was found abandoned on Seddon Crescent and a 27-year-old man was arrested in the area by armed police.

"Three patrol cars were damaged during the incident," a police spokesperson told Newshub.

"Three police officers also received minor injuries, one has a suspected broken finger, and two others received bruises and sprains as result of airbag deployment."
