'What's he guilty of?' Duncan Garner defends Donald Trump

Duncan Garner has defended Donald Trump, saying there's often an overreaction from people when the US President makes a blunder.

"How bad is he really?" The AM Show host said of Mr Trump. "What's he guilty of? I wonder if it's overkill on Trump, I really do. People are looking to hate him - why?"

Garner's comments came after US singer Pharrell Williams said he was not happy that his song was played at one of Mr Trump's political rallies in Indiana. The musician sent a cease and desist letter to the President.

He said he was horrified the song had been played on the same day as the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting. And Williams is not the first artist to object to their song being used at Trump rally. Others include Adele, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones.

Garner questioned Williams' reaction to the song being used, asking: "Are we overreacting?"

Mark Richardson agreed, saying: "I've been saying this for some time - America is ripping itself apart over Trump - Trump isn't ripping America apart."

"If the Democrats get control of the Senate and open up impeachment, what can they impeach him on? Being a bit of a diddle?" said Richardson.

But Amanda Gillies isn't convinced. She said Mr Trump is "racist, he's sexist, he's homophobic, he takes the mickey out of people with intellectual disabilities, he's just morally, I don't think, a good man".

The discussion came after a US politics expert said democracy is at stake ahead of the country's mid-term elections. Maria Aarmoudian told The AM Show voter restrictions are in place in at least four states, which could have a severe effect on the outcome.
