Asian crime gang busted with over 1kg meth

Police believe they have captured the head of a major Asian organised crime syndicate after large-scale raids across Auckland.

Four people have been arrested and over a kilogram of methamphetamine seized following an investigation into the gang.

In January, a police raid led to the discovery of two large-scale methamphetamine laboratories in Auckland.

Four people were arrested, however the person believed to be the head of the syndicate escaped and allegedly continued to establish a drug network.

Last week, a major police operation led to the capture and arrest of the alleged ring-leader, along with three associates in a motel room in west Auckland.

Police seized well over a kilogram of pure methamphetamine, $100,000 in cash, two pistols, a cut-down rifle and found another active clandestine laboratory.

Detective Inspector Paul Newman, from the National Organised Crime Group, says this is a great outcome for police and the arrest of the syndicate head is a significant result.

"These arrests demonstrate our commitment to preventing the harm that these drugs cause in our community," he says.

"We will do everything we can to protect the public from offenders who cause considerable harm through the manufacturing and supplying of illicit drugs."
