'Ball checking' booth makes debut at Big Boys Toys expo this weekend

If you're worried that you might have something going on "down there" but the idea of going to your doctor fills you with fear, the Testimatic could be the answer.

The Testimatic is a booth launched by Testicular Cancer NZ at Big Boys Toys expo this weekend.

The booth removes the awkwardness of a check-up by ensuring anonymity.

The idea is that men  enter the booth and draw a curtain behind them. Once they have dropped their trousers, an urologist seated behind a screen will stick their hand through a hole and check for any signs of cancer.

The process is over within minutes, and men can go on their way, reassured and free of embarrassment.

Graeme Woodside, the chief executive of Testicular Cancer NZ stresses the importance of early detection, saying it is "critical for testicular cancer treatment, as it leads to better outcomes for patients."

"If detected at an early stage, testicular cancer has a 99% survival rate - but many cancer groups are concerned that men do not get regular check-ups, or are unaware that they should be checking themselves for warning signs.

Symptoms of testicular cancer vary but according to cancer.net some things to be mindful of are:

  • A painless lump or swelling on either testicle
  • Discomfort or numbness without swelling
  • Aching in the lower abdomen or groin
  • Sudden build-up of fluid in the scrotum
