Four charged over gunshots in Wairoa

Four people have been arrested in connection with gunshots heard in Wairoa ealier this week.

Two shots were fired on McLean St late on Tuesday night. Sgt James Keene said it was gang-related, and would not be tolerated.

Three men, aged 20, 24 and 28, were arrested on Friday after the armed offenders squad carried out searches at two properties. They have been charged with offences including assault with a weapon, wilful damage, aggravated robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm, and will appear in court on Saturday.

A fourth man, aged 23, was arrested on Tuesday night and has been charged with possession of offensive weapons.

"Gangs carrying out such violent acts in our town will not be tolerated," said Sgt Keene. "The community deserves to be safe and feel safe at all times."

A shotgun was seized.
