An elderly woman who went missing in the Tasman region on Saturday has been found safe and well on Sunday afternoon.

Judith Nash, a 75-year-old from Stanley Brook, southwest of Nelson, was last seen walking towards Motueka along the Motueka Valley Highway at 5:30am on Saturday morning.

She was wearing jeans, a multi-coloured shirt and a beige jacket, walking a medium-sized red dog.

Her vehicle was also found on Saturday morning, crashed on the highway.

Police say she was found by members of the public, and thank those who supported the search, which lasted over 36 hours.
