One person has died after a crash on Haast Highway on the South Island's West Coast.
The vehicle was travelling across the Moeraki River Bridge on Wednesday evening when it crashed.
While three people were able to exit the vehicle safely, one tragically remained trapped and was unable to be rescued.
The authorities were notified of the incident at 6:49pm, police said in a statement.
The road has now been closed, and police are urging drivers to avoid travelling through the area where the crash occurred.
The Serious Crash Unit has been notified and will investigate.
