Her husband told Stuff that it would not be an area known to her, and he does not know how she got there.

Ms Shelar had been missing from her home in Khandallah for five days before her body was found, and her husband says that she disappeared following an inconclusive ultrasound.

However, Ms Shelar's family in India denies this.

"This thing which is going on in the news that she was upset because she wanted a boy, this news is not right, it's not true," family spokesperson Harshal Patkar told NZME.

"She wanted a baby boy but she was never upset about having a baby girl".

Mr Patkar says that her family suspect foul play

"It might be a murder, that is what I'm saying, that is what her family thinks, especially her mother".

Police are not speculating on whether foul play was involved, and said further updates are not expected on Thursday.
