The suspected hostage situation at Westfield Manukau mall has been resolved, according to police.
"It involved a man and a woman," police spokesperson Jarred Williamson said in a statement at 10am.
"The man is now in custody and speaking with police."
Footage posted to social media Friday morning showed what appeared to be a man with his arm around a woman's neck in a threatening manner.
Another video shows police negotiating with the suspect as he threatened the woman.
The suspect was wearing a baseball cap and appeared to be holding a knife.
Witnesses said the woman held at knifepoint was pregnant.
It's understood the incident happened at around 9:30am, and the mall was evacuated.
People outside the mall appear shaken and some employees are crying.
The incident occurred near the mall's Burger King restaurant at the food court.
The woman was uninjured, according to police.
Inquiries are "ongoing" into the incident.
Police said more information will come as it's available.
