Two people are trapped in separate vehicles following a two car crash in Waihola, south of Dunedin.
Emergency services are at the scene of the crash that happened around 2:50pm on Thursday.
An emergency helicopter has also been dispatched to the scene.
The people have serious injuries, police say.
State Highway One is currently closed and diversions are in place.
