Thunderstorms and hail are expected to hit parts of the South Island and central New Zealand on Monday night.
The week ahead looks to have a distinct summer feel about it with daily highs in the 20s for many places across the country.
Yet thunderstorms and hail are likely for Taupo, Napier, Hastings and Gisborne along with inland Marlborough, the Canterbury foothills, Dunedin and parts of north Otago on Monday evening, MetService says.
- Weather: Chaos continues across the South Island as heavy rain bites
- Body found in search for woman feared swept away by flooding
- Weather chaos: Flooding and flights grounded
- South Island to be battered by severe weather
"Away from all the drama of showers and potential thunderstorms, weather conditions will be significantly more pleasant, and with blue skies and temperatures into the 20's for most this week," MetService says.
Wednesday and Thursday look to be the hottest days, with many places across New Zealand expected to have daily highs in the mid-20s.
The warm weather should hang around into the weekend for those in the North Island.
But for those in the south, its a different picture as heavy rain is expected to batter Fiordland and Westland, only a week after a heavy deluge closed schools and roads, causing chaos across the region.
