Amazing Grace: Auckland vigil crowd's emotional song for Grace Millane

A crowd of hundreds sang an emotional rendition of 'Amazing Grace' at the Auckland vigil to Grace Millane on Wednesday evening.

Lizzie Marvelly led the performance, saying the gathering was a time to remember the 22-year-old backpacker, whose body was found in the Waitākere Ranges on Sunday.

"It's a time to pay tribute to a young woman who should have been safe in our backyard," the Kiwi singer said.

"It's a time for us to grieve and to send our sincerest condolences, apologies and love to her family, to her parents, to her two brothers, to her friends and all of her loved ones.

"Tonight is a time to honour Grace, and also to honour all the other women who have lost their lives in this country to violence."

Ms Millane's father David and Auckland Mayor Phil Goff were among those who joined the vigil.
