Auckland Airport international terminal evacuated

Staff have re-entered the check-in area of the international terminal at Auckland Airport after much of the terminal was evacuated earlier on Saturday evening.

"We have received the all-clear from Emergency Services," a tweet from Auckland Airport reads.

"Staff have re-entered the check-in area of the terminal. Passengers will be asked to enter the building soon."

Earlier, Auckland Airport confirmed two separate areas of the international terminal had been evacuated.

Check in, international departures, baggage hall and international arrivals have been evacuated, the airport confirmed via Twitter.

According to Justice Kamu, a spokesperson for Air New Zealand, there was a fire in the air conditioning vent at the international terminal building.

The sprinkler system doused the fire, Mr Kamu said.

Airport emergency services are currently onsite, and passengers are not being processed at this stage.
