A Gloriavale father has been kicked out of the religious sect for questioning its leadership.

The man in his 20s was kicked out this week, leaving behind his wife and four young children.

Newshub understands the man was kicked out for questioning the leadership and for speaking to people outside of the Gloriavale community.

It's understood the man was born in the religious sect and is devastated to be kicked out.

The father is the second man in just over a week to be kicked out of Gloriavale.

He is the brother-in-law of former Gloriavale member John Ready, who was forced to leave last year after being found with contraband - religious pamphlets dropped off by 'night raiders'.

The man is being supported by Christians outside of the community on the West Coast.

It's understood that in the last year, five fathers in total have been kicked out of Gloriavale.

Newshub understands one of those fathers kicked out has been allowed back in because he passed on information that led to another father being kicked out.

Newshub has contacted Gloriavale for comment.
