Man charged with woman's south Auckland murder

A 33-year-old man has been charged with murder after a woman's death in south Auckland on Monday night.

Police were called out to Flat Bush after reports that a woman was attacked. The 34-year-old victim was found unconscious with a number of serious wounds and died in Middlemore Hospital from her injuries.

The suspect then contacted Police alleging he was the offender. He was found in Botany and brought back to the Manukau Police station. Detective Inspector Tofilau Faa Va'aelua says the alleged offender was known to the victim.

"Police are continuing to investigate the incident and a scene examination continues today," a police spokesperson says.

"We also encourage anyone who witnessed this incident or has any information to contact Police."

The accused will appear in the Manukau District Court on Tuesday morning charged with murder.
