Murder charge over alleged decapitation of elderly Petone man Francis Tyson

A man has been charged over the grisly decapitation death of 71-year-old Petone man Francis Tyson. 

The 41-year-old accused was charged on Tuesday morning in the Lower Hutt District Court for the murder that occurred on Friday evening.

The accused has been granted name suppression.

Mr Tyson was decapitated at a block of flats in Petone.

Police confirmed on Monday that neither the victim nor the accused are suspected of any gang affiliations.

The accused man is also facing charges of intentional damage and the sale and supply of unapproved drugs.

He is due to reappear in the Wellington High Court on December 19.
