A paraglider has died after a crash near the summit of Mt Maunganui.
Emergency services were alerted to the crash at 6.20pm this evening and an emergency response took place.
The paraglider landed about 100 metres into dense bush which required 4x4 vehicles to reach, Senior Sergeant Rob Glencross said in a statement.
The man’s body was recovered by a team of emergency services personnel shortly after 8.30pm this evening.
The 48-year-old local man died at the scene.
The crash occurred near the summit on the eastern side of the Mount.
Police are seeking any witnesses to the crash.
