Police caught playing table tennis during Auckland search warrant

Auckland police officers have been caught on camera playing table tennis while executing a search warrant.

Officers from the Waitemata policing area and the armed offenders squad raided a commercial premise in Henderson on Wednesday morning.

CCTV captured some of the officers playing table tennis while others worked around them. One officer pointed to the camera above as the officers continued to play.

Waitemata west area commander Insp Zane Hooper said police were aware of the footage, which shows officers playing table tennis in their "downtime".

"A post-search warrant debrief will be undertaken. This video and the actions of the staff involved will be reviewed as part of this process and the learnings addressed with the respective staff."

In the video a man can be heard saying, "They're still playing when the big boss is there. She just pointed out there is a camera up there.

"New Zealand, this what we pay for... and one has just spotted my camera and realised we're actually all on camera, but they keep on playing.

"This is what cops do, they play games. New Zealand police, better work stories, they got them covered."

Inspe Hooper said a pump-action shotgun, rifle, ammunition and a Taser were found at the property.

A 29-year-old man was arrested and will appear in the Henderson District Court on a number of firearms and other related charges.
