Auckland baby in 'critical condition' after receiving 'serious injuries'

A 10-week old baby in Auckland is said to be in a "critical condition" after receiving injuries earlier this week.

Counties Manukau Police is investigating an incident in Papakura, south Auckland, where the infant boy received "serious injuries" earlier in the week.

He was transported to Starship Hospital on Tuesday and remains in a critical condition, Detective Inspector Colin Higson said.

Police are making enquiries into the incident and have asked anyone with information to contact Counties Manukau Police on 09 261 1321.

It comes after another baby boy was seriously injured in Tauranga late last month after suffering "non-accidental" injuries, police said.

The three-week-old was hospitalised and was on life support in Auckland's Starship Hospital. A forensic examination took place at an address in Welcome Bay.
