CCTV has captured the frightening moment a woman was seen hanging from a moving car.

Witnesses to the incident said she was screaming as the car travelled along Kerikeri Rd, near the Bay of Islands.

Police were alerted to the incident at 9:05am on Thursday, and report that the woman was eventually freed from the vehicle.

The driver and the woman are reported to be known to each other.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, and anyone who saw or heard the scene is asked to contact Sergeant Courtney Sandilands on (09) 407 9211.

This is the second incident of this kind that has hit headlines in as many weeks. Last week, footage of a woman screaming as she was dragged behind a car in Manukau was in the news.

PB Tech drew attention for using the footage as an advertisement for dash cameras, but did not respond to request for comment.

Video of that moment showed a woman in a car that rear-ended another vehicle, before jumping out as she shouted at witnesses. As she attempted to get back into the car, it drove away and she was dragged along the ground screaming before letting go.
