Police are addressing media regarding a Whanganui stabbing incident on Tuesday that killed one person and injured five others.
A homicide investigation was opened after one victim died at the scene.
Whanganui Mayor Hamish Douall told Newshub that the crime was not gang related.
He said it was a "tragic and horrific outcome" of what sounded like a domestic incident that spilled out onto the street.
