Officers have spent the night working to locate a person of interest after an incident in Grasmere, Invercargill.
Around 3:30pm on Saturday police and ambulance were called to Drury Lane after getting reports of an incident involving a firearm.
The armed offenders squad was involved.
A man is recovering in Southland hospital with serious injuries after an altercation with the person of interest, who is on the run.
